Prince Philip: All the Important Timings for Today’s Service

The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral takes place later today at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. The service starts at 3pm when the UK will observe a minute’s silence in honor of the Duke. However, the first events will be ones that we the public will not see.

The Duke’s Coffin Leaves the Private Chapel at Windsor, 11am

As the clocks at Windsor strike eleven, the coffin of Prince Philip will be taken from the Private Chapel at the Castle to the Inner Hall. It will be accompanied by the Grenadier Guards.

The Duke’s Final Journey Begins, 2.41pm

Prince Philip’s coffin will be taken to the State Entrance of Windsor where it will be placed on the Land Rover he designed for his funeral procession. The start of the Duke’s final journey will take place at 2.41pm precisely.

The Royal Funeral Procession Begins, 2.45pm

The Royal Family will take their places in the cortege and begin the procession to St. George’s Chapel, Windsor at 2.45pm. The Duke of Edinburgh’s four children will walk alongside the Land Rover bearing his coffin while the procession behind the vehicle will be led by Prince Philip’s eldest grandson, Peter Phillips, who will have his cousins, The Duke of Cambridge and The Duke of Sussex, on either side of him. The Queen will be driven to St. George’s Chapel by car with a lady in waiting at her side.

The procession is due to reach St. George’s Chapel at 2.53pm. The Duke’s coffin will be taken from the Land Rover at the West Steps of the Chapel and borne into the church for the service.

National Minute of Silence in Honour of The Duke of Edinburgh, 3pm

At 3pm exactly, the United Kingdom will observe a minute’s silence for Prince Philip. Planes will be stopped from taking off at Heathrow around that time to prevent disruption to the beginning of the funeral.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Funeral Begins, 3.01pm

The funeral is set to start at the end of the minute’s silence. The ceremony is due to last around 50 minutes.
