Friday was a double Royal Mail Day. In addition to the letter that I received in response to the anniversary wishes that I sent, I also received Her Majesty’s Christmas 2020 Reply.

The last few years have seen the Christmas reply become a short, unpersonalized, unsigned reply. This year was no different in that respect. But it did differ in one way. As expected, Her Majesty’s Christmas 2020 Reply did alter the text to say that:
Her Majesty greatly appreciates your kind thoughts at this time and hopes 2021 will be a happier year for us all.
No point in trying to get away from 2020, it sucked. Her Majesty’s Christmas 2020 Reply simply puts it so much more eloquently than I would.
So much changed in 2020. It is oddly comforting just to see Royal Mail arrive. It is also comforting to see that even Her Majesty feels the impact 2020 has had, and like so many of the rest of us she is more than ready for things tp get better. I cannot express just how much of a comfort Her Majesty has been to me through all this craziness.
Remember, I freely admitted to crying during Her Majesty’s 2020 Christmas Speech.
She could have said that 2020 was not a year upon which she would look back with undiluted pleasure, or called it an “annus horribilus” ….I would have been on board, and I might have even choked on my tea and biscuit.
I will be sending Royal Mail in 2021 and I will always look forward to these replies…and to sharing them with you, my readers.
If you haven’t yet, be sure to go read about the Anniversary wishes I sent to Her Majesty and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
