Children’s Hospice Week 2020

Well, if I am jumping back into the world of never ending activity that is Royal Blogging I am going to do it on a week that means the most to me. Children’s Hospice Week. And this time NOTHING is going to distract me from my coverage.

Coronavirus / COVID-19 is having an impact that is frankly on a path to be devastating to Children’s Hospice Services the world over. While some are open to provide their respite care services to the children and families, many if not most are postponing all services that are not end-of-life care.

Even some of the end-of-life services, mainly those that happen immediately after the death of the child are either highly restricted or are not able to happen at all.

The frustrating point for me is in knowing that the impact of COVID-19 will be felt by these services and the patients and families they serve for so much longer than many of us will be feeling the discomfort and frustration that comes with social distancing.

Many of the Children’s Hospices have had to cancel or postpone indefinitely all of their in-person fundraising events for the foreseeable future. I know that I personally have heard from Children’s Hospices who are bracing themselves for a shortfall between $1 Million and $2 Million.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) in the UK has told its supporters that when it had to close all of its charity shops it went from bringing in £100,000 per week to bringing in £0. They launched an Emergency COVID-19 Relief Appeal hoping to raise £1.8 Million.

This week to kick off Children’s Hospice Week, and in response to seeing the numbers laid bare, I have decided to support this appeal and to join as a fundraiser.

I know that money is probably tight for everyone right now, but if you are able to give just £2 it WILL add up and it WILL make a huge difference for the families served by this wonderful organization.
